PASHA CAS

MON ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

As the first artist of the Museum of Now artist residence from October 1st to the end of December 2019, Pasha Cas realized phenomenal works and generated a huge amount of impressions, results and documentaries. The Kazakhstan-based artist participated in the exhibition program of the Museum of Now in Berlin with two performances in front of the audience, then developed them further and took them as a prelude to even more spectacular works and further self-initialized interventions. The creative machine of Pasha Cas soon became unstoppable.

We are very enthusiastic about the intensity of his work and feel more than confirmed and encouraged in our plan to give young, up-and-coming artists the opportunity for an exchange and ideally growth within our international artist residence program.
Pasha Cas was inspired by archetypal forms, created dance based interventions weaving together layers of meaning and revealing hidden aspects of space and form. The result exceeded all expectations.

PASHA CAS BERLINCORE

FIVE INTERVENTIONS ON LIMITS OF THE VISIBLE

The "performative installation" describes a highly contemporary phenomenon that, in the not too distant past, still required a precise analysis of the artistic characteristics. In the field, which is insufficiently described as "installation art" as a genre, it is precisely the performative and the interactive strategies that give the installations their specific appearance.

During his 100 days artist residence at Museum of Now in Berlin, Pasha Cas developed a series of performative installations, asking questions about public and private space, ownership and explored inner and outer skins of the city. The artist was looking for divisions in public and social space, but also for cracks in the system that would give him access and allow him to spin his interactive interventions around.

Without knowing in which direction the artist's residence in Berlin would take him, Pasha Cas let the natural curiosity of the newcomer to the city lead him but with a particular sensitivity to anomalies gravitating on him. The result was a series of five performative interventions that took place both in the exhibition space and in the streets of the city.

The topics became so extensive and attracted huge interest that the resulting interventions had to be summarized in a lengthy script, which finally turned into a publication.

The book "Pasha Cas, Berlincore. Five Interventions on Limits of the Visible" is the first publication that the Museum of Now has realized as part of our artists in residence program and will be published on February 15th, 2020.
