THE KRANK
MON *BERLIN EDITION 2019
The combination of typography and abstract expressionism is the main characteristic of the artist The Krank (born 1988, Greece).
The anonymous artist regards himself as a a seismograph of society and articulates social grievances and group psychological phenomena in his works. Creating works both on the canvas in the studio and as interventions in urban space.
The peculiarity of The Kranks work is the stringent black-and-white aesthetics as well as the iconicity of indecipherable hieroglyphs, fragments of letters, newly arranged words black on white and white on black.
PING & PONG
For his work at the Berlin Edition of MON The Krank collaborated with the British artist TpT, who designed and produced a round table tennis installation with a rotating net.
The red, round top surface of the table was painted by The Krank with his typical calligraffiti in white color, creating an area free from the dictate of lines, rules and competition. A surface that combines the strongest nonverbal means of communication: visual art and sports and which questions the concept of simplified two-part divisions.
