VIKTOR FREŠO

MON *BERLIN EDITION 2019

Viktor Frešo (born in 1974, Bratislava, Slovakia) is one of the leading post millennium conceptual artists in Eastern Europe.

Frešo’s works is part of private collections and museal collections in the USA, Asia, Europe and Australia. His ability to reduce social phenomena, its concepts and symbolic representation, creates work that is free from cultural differences.

Nationalism, the transfiguration of the past and the effects of communism on Society up to the present day are the prevailing questions in his work. Frešo articulates these topics in his sculptures, paintings and performances. In addition to social criticism and the processing of personal experiences, there is always a humorous note with irony as a central figure in Frešo’s work.

THE VIKIS

The Vikis, a series of round self-portraits sculptures from 50 centimeters in diameter up to the monumental seven-meter-high Mega Vikis, occupy a prominent role within Viktor Frešos oeuvre.

The works from the Vikis series are sculptural self-portraits of the artist and an ironic reflection of the art market, its protagonists and the concept of art in general.
